Active Adult Coordinator

Job Type: Full-time with Benefits
Salary: $32,000

Working under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Recreation, creates, plans, organizes, and coordinates programs, events, and trips for Active Adults. Additionally, creates, plans, organizes, coordinates, and manages a variety of Special Interest programs.  May supervisor instructors and aides.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Selects, plans, organizes, schedules, and coordinates with the guidance of the Assistant Director of Recreation, all Active Adult events, programs and trips.
  • Functions as the central contact for all trips participants and acts as an escort on Day Trips.
  • Composes trip and program descriptions for program guides and advertising materials, with guidance from the Assistant Director of Recreation.
  • Monitors participation numbers, waitlists, and trip manifests for Active Adult programs, events, trips, and Special Interest programs.
  • Responsible for purchase requests, purchase orders, invoicing, contracts, trip manifests, refunds and rentals for assigned programs and departments. 
  • Creates flyers, poster, calendars, and tickets for all assigned programs and departments
  • Responsible for the setup, decoration, implementation, shopping, serving, promoting and breakdown of Active Adult programs and events with the assistance of the Active Adult Aides.
  • Works with the Assistant Director of Recreation in the creation, distribution, and recording of Active Adult event surveys and evaluations. 
  • Acts as liaison to Veterans Park District Senior Clubs.
  • Assists the Assistant Director of Recreation in promoting, marketing, and provides information regarding activities, classes, programs and events for assigned programs and departments. 
  • Responds to public inquiries about Active Adult recreation programs and/or Special Interest programs made by telephone, correspondence, or during public meetings. 
  • Assists with various Special Events such as Veterans Day, Ground Breaking, Ribbon Cutting, and Grand Openings. 
  • Prepares for publication a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, and related communications regarding the promotion of Active Adult Trips, program events and Special Interest programs with the guidance from the Assistant Director of Recreation.  
  • Creates, plans, organizes, coordinates, and manages a variety of Special Interest programs.
  • Secures and schedules use of halls, gym, and facilities for programs and events.
  • Determines the materials, equipment, facility, and instruction needs for assigned activities, classes, programs and events. 
  • Proficient in RecTrac pertaining to entering participants registrations, program numbers, updated households, questions, retrieve reports, rosters, receipts and print outs. 
  • Assures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; performs cost control activities; monitors revenues and expenditures in assigned area to assure sound fiscal control; prepares annual budget requests; assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time. 

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High School Graduate or equivalent, Associate Degree preferred in recreation and/or related field. Two years recreation experience and/or working with Active Adults. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Marketing/Special Events Coordinator

The Marketing/Special Events Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the overall promotion of all Park District events and programs, as well as the Park District as a whole through social media, print media, electronic media, and other forms of communication with the public. The Marketing/Special Events Coordinator will assist the Recreation Department staff with the planning, development, promotion, and management of all Park District special events. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Recreation.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement specific goals and objectives related to marketing and promoting events, programs and the Park District as a whole with assistants from the Assistant Director of Recreation.
  • Assists with producing, distributing and evaluating print and electronic marketing communication materials, including but not limited to: Program brochure, print and electronic newsletters, bulletin board displays, lobby monitors, electronic street signs, advertisements, flyers, pamphlets, posters, and other point of sale collateral.
  • Works with the Assistant Director of Recreation to establish, coordinate, and execute the social media plan for the Park District.
  • Works with department staff to ensure effective promotion and awareness of VPD programs and special events at all facilities i.e. flyers, posters, newsletters, etc.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with the press, including writing press releases on a regular basis with assistance from the Assistant Director of Recreation.
  • Assists the Assistant Director of Recreation in the development/creation of the Park District’s seasonal brochures and newsletters in cooperation with the recreation department staff.
  • Maintains and updates Park District website and mobile applications.
  • Establishes and updates email database and maintain regular email communication with residents.

  • Assists with the Assistant Director of Recreation with coordinating Park District representation at community events, health fairs, school open houses, etc.
  • Works in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Recreation to plan, assist, supervise, and manage all Park District Special Events.
  • Works with the Assistant Director of Recreation to prepare annual marketing budgets in accordance with District goals.
  • Maintain the upkeep and cataloging of the Veterans Museum and its content.
  • Assists the Assistant Director of Recreation in seeking sponsors and donations, including assisting the coordination of Softball Tournament sponsorships.
  • Maintain print clipping files, photographs, targeted mailing lists and all other appropriate marketing materials; and develop, catalog, and maintain an up-to-date photo and video library for district use.
  • Works with recreation staff and reviews all district flyers, posters, calendars, etc. before going to print.
  • Maintain and inventory all district wide special event storage closets.
  • Distributes district program guides, newsletters, and fliers to local schools, libraries, villages, and district facilities.
  • Displays and monitors all print media posted throughout the district’s facilities. Organize and inventory all park district promotional items.
  • Responsible for the coordination, displaying and storage of the district wide holiday decorations. Acts as the District photographer for special events and key community relations activities.
  • Assists the Assistant Director of Recreation with the Volunteer binders and applications.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Associate Degree required, four-year degree preferred in marketing, communication and/or related field. One-year recreation experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Cimbalo Fitness Customer Service Representative

Job Type: Part-time
Salary: $10 per hour
Hours:  Monday through Friday 12 PM to 5 PM and occasional coverage on Saturday or Sunday 7 AM to 2 PM

Responsible for club membership and program registration, club members and guest check-in, and customer questions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Handles all incoming calls and inquiries.
  • Greets customers and members upon entering and existing the facility.
  • Check in members and verify membership.
  • Registers guests and collect guest fees.
  • Makes court reservations and collect fees.
  • Promotes, registers and collects all fees for: Club Leagues; Club Tournaments, Club Clinics and lessons, Fitness /Aerobic Classes including Fitness Club Special Events and VPD programs.
  • Completes membership enrollment process with new members including paperwork and entering all membership data into the computer and registers members for programs and special events.
  • Processes membership payments, cancellations, renewals and freezes as directed by the Fitness Club Director.
  • Keeps desk and lobby straightened and clean at all times.
  • Keeps registration area and office supplies, district wide posters/flyers, and all forms stocked at all times.
  • Maintains an efficient filing and records system by utilizing RecTrac and cabinet files.
  • Periodically, throughout the day cleans and sanitizes all Fitness Center equipment and machines.
  • Informs management of needed equipment repairs on a timely basis, by conducting weekly equipment checks and inform manager of any issues regarding equipment performance.
  • Handles and resolves membership concerns and informs Fitness Center Director of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
  • Assure that citizen comments/inquiries/complaints and office related comments/inquiries /complaints are handled in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Monitors voicemails and email communication throughout the day.
  • Completes, follows and signs off on all front desk daily check lists.
  • Perform a variety of administrative office duties such as answering phone, typing correspondence, registering programs and collecting fees.
  • Become familiar with the administration, cancellation policy, open gym fees, preschool, park rules, pool pass, Facility rentals, refund policy, special events, and various recreation programs.
  • Proficient in RecTrac pertaining to registrations, memberships, reports, refunds, court rentals, payments and procedures.
  • Respond to public inquiries about recreation programs made by telephone or in person, limited to the information mentioned in the brochure or Veterans Park District promotional material.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High School Graduate or equivalent. Three to five years’ experience in supervision within a customer service environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Fitness Instructor

Job Type: Part-time

Salary Depending on Qualifications

Teaches and instructs fitness programs for tots, youth, teens, adults and older adults, beginning and ending on time; provides adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down. Instructs patrons on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques and demonstrates exercise. Maintain accurate attendance records of program participants Establish an open line of communication with participants and parents Supervise participants enrolled in the program at all times Maintain order and enforce rules during the program Preform set-up and clean-up responsibilities Ensure equipment is maintained properly and supplies are stored in an orderly fashion in the appropriate storage closet Submit paperwork in a timely manner, which may include, but is not limited to, attendance records, accident reports, receipts, program outlines, etc. Demonstrate and support park district customer service standards.   2. Veterans Park District (Bulger Park) — Melrose Park, IL
  3. Salary: $14.00 per hour
  4. Hours 8 AM to 1 PM (three to five days a week)
  5. Start Date: August 15, 2019

  6. Veterans Park District provides recreational and educational programs for residents of Northlake, Melrose Park, Franklin Park, River Grove, and unincorporated Leyden Township.

  7. The Lead Teacher is responsible for creating age appropriate/detailed lesson plans for Park District Preschool Curriculum and successfully implement the curriculum in the classroom. Direct supervision of the Preschool Teacher Assistant, all students, and all procedures followed in classroom.

  8. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strong organization, written, speaking, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work with up to 20 children at a time with an assistant
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Ensures that regular safety inspections/evacuation drills are performed in compliance with DCFS licensing standards.
  • Implements preschool curriculum in the classroom and writes developmentally appropriate/age appropriate lesson plans.

  1. EDUCATION MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  2. According to DCFS, applicant must have the following credentials: A minimum of an associate degree in child development or early childhood education, or the equivalent (64 semester hours in any discipline with a minimum of 21 semester hours of college credit in child development early childhood education or early childhood special education) and either a Gateways to Opportunity Level I Illinois Director Credential or 3 semester hours of college credit in administration, leadership, or management.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Current physical exam, with TB test and proof of MMR and Tdap vaccination (completed by start date of work)

Early Childhood Instructor

Job Type:  Part-Time (Seasonal)   

Salary: $10 per hour 

Hours:  Various hours in morning and early evening according to classes offered each season.


Veterans Park District provides recreational and educational programs for residents of Northlake, Melrose Park, Franklin Park, River Grove, and unincorporated Leyden Township.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Veterans Park District Early Childhood program is seeking an individual to instruct early childhood classes for children ages 2-5 years. The instructor is responsible for the planning and organization of all aspects of the early childhood classes to ensure positive and fun experiences for participants and parents.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with preschool children, preferably in a formal or informal teaching capacity.

  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills and genuine enthusiasm for working with children required.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.

  • Must become certified and maintain certification in First Aid and CPR (classes provided).

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.


EDUCATION/SPECIFIC  CREDENTIALS:

High School Diploma (coursework in Early Childhood, Education or Recreation preferred)

SPECIFIC  SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:
  • Develop theme-based classes and curriculum for early childhood children ages 2 to 5 years.

  • Setup materials and activities before each program and cleanup classroom at the end of the program.

  • Assist Director of Early Childhood & Youth Programming in maintaining accurate participation and evaluation records of various programs in order to measure customer satisfaction and interest trends.

  • Maintain inventory of program supplies and request purchases as needed.

  • Travel to different park locations to instruct classes in order to accommodate all participants in the community.

  • Direct the classroom activities in a positive manner.

  • Demonstrate a positive and cheerful attitude when working with the children and parents.
